Employee Assistance

What is it?

An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a confidential counselling or advisory service. It is there for employees to obtain professional assistance and guidance to resolve or better manage work or personal problems that may be affecting their work performance, productivity and well-being.

How does it work?

  • Part of Occupational, Health & Safety
  • People attend as a self referral or as a management referral
  • The service providers are all registered psychologists

Self Referral

  • Strictly voluntary
  • Limited to four sessions
  • On site or elsewhere
  • Name only made available for billing purposes
  • Assistance for a range of personal and work related problems

Management Referrals

  • Occurs when there is a need for expert advice regarding work performance
  • Can be for mediation, conflict resolution, change management, performance issues
  • Focus on putting in place strategies which reduce conflict

Central Psychology Services provides EAP to a number of organisations. Each organisation constructs its own program differently.

The keystone of each program is for it to be as flexible as possible and so of value to each group of employees.
